LETTER: Local petitioners and Senate act together to raise awareness of persecution in China
My name is Joy Zhao. My previous letter to the editor was published on Sept. 29, 2014, regarding my experience with the Chinese Communist Party's persecution of Falun Gong, a peaceful mind and body meditation that's closely related to traditional Chinese culture.
I'm very excited to hear the Minnesota Senate has unanimously passed the Senate File (SF) 2090 resolution that "calls on the Government of the People's Republic of China to immediately end the practice of organ harvesting from all prisoners and prisoners of conscience, and explicitly from Falun Gong prisoners of conscience and members of other religious and ethnic minority groups," and "will take measures to initiate a registry for residents of Minnesota who travel abroad to receive organ transplants; and will take measures to ban the entry of those who have participated in illegal removal of human tissues and organs, and seek prosecution of such individuals should they be found on the soil of Minnesota."
I'm very grateful that Sen. Susan Kent, who represents Woodbury, is one of the co-authors of this historic resolution.
It was mentioned on the Senate floor that in the past two summers more than 60,000 Minnesotans signed the Doctors Against Forced Organ Harvesting's (DAFOH) petition to the UN.
Many people from Woodbury actually signed it at the St. Paul Farmers Market or the State Fair.
It's wonderful to see that the Senate has passed a resolution to address our voice on this and help people know more about the brutal persecution of Falun Gong. Together we can safeguard human rights and say no to the Chinese Communist Party's efforts to export their propaganda against traditional Chinese culture to the Minnesota soil.
