LETTER: Serve district with honesty, integrity

Families of District 833, my name is Joe Slavin and I am the blessed father of three daughters, all of whom attend south Washington County schools. My wife Darcy and I have been residents of the district for over 13 years and our family has grown up in our community. In my work life, I am the principal of Skyview Middle School in District 622 and have been working in public education for 23 years not only as a principal but also as a teacher.

As a School Board member I have and will continue to be that strong advocate for our district and our amazing staff. I have and will continue to take seriously the importance of working closely with our superintendent to ensure that strategic plans of action are implemented, that progress is made toward established goals, and that District 833 continues to meet the high expectations of our community. I have and will continue to work hard to serve our community with honesty, integrity, and in the manner that helps create a strong School Board that supports our children and our community.

Finally, the main goals I have as School Board member are and will continue to be closing race-based achievement and opportunity gaps and supporting current and expanded robust learning experiences for students that ignite a passion for learning such as band and orchestra at the elementary level, the Spanish Immersion program, Project Lead the Way, and International Baccalaureate programs at the high schools to name a few. I will work with political leaders to create an equitable, predictable and sustainable funding solution for public education, one that doesn’t pit neighbor against neighbor or community against community.

I feel incredibly blessed to have had the opportunity to serve on the South Washington County School Board for the past six months and would love to be able to continue with this important work on behalf of you, on behalf of your children and on behalf our community.

Joe Slavin
