Alvin Ronald "Ron" Zigman

Alvin Ronald "Ron" Zigman, 84, of Woodbury, passed away unexpectedly May 6. He was born October 31, 1933 in Chicago, Illinois. He attended St. Mel's High School. He attended Loyola University where he earned bachelor's and master's degrees. He attended the University of Iowa in Iowa City and earned his doctorate in organic chemistry in February, 1969. He worked at 3M, retiring in 1996 after 27 years. He was a man of many talents: chemist, auto mechanic, fisherman, and hunter. He was an avid reader. He especially enjoyed repairing computers at the St. Vincent de Paul Minneapolis store. He always had time to give advice to those with career questions or problems or help with repairing a car. Ron is survived by his wife, Joanne, of 54 years and his son, Alvin, Jr. (J.R.). In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to NPH USA (Nuestros Pequenos Hermanos, Our Little Brothers and Sisters, a mission of nine homes caring for abused and orphaned children in Latin America and the Caribbean), 945 Broadway Street NE, Suite 230, Minneapolis, Minnesota 55413-2500. The funeral Mass is Thursday, May 17, at 11:00 a.m., with visitation one hour before, at Guardian Angels Catholic Church, 8260 4th Street North, Oakdale.
