Doris E. Garbe, 101
Doris Ethel Garbe, 101, of Hudson, Wis., died on Saturday, April 15, at Hometown Senior Living of Hudson, Wis.
She was born July 22, 1915 in Woodbury, the daughter of William and Bertha (Kuehl) Gausman. After graduating from Harding High School in St. Paul and the Rasmussen School of Business, she worked for six years as an executive secretary at the Hilex Company in St. Paul. On June 10, 1939, she was married to Robert B. Garbe. They farmed in Ramsey County until 1957 when they moved to their dairy farm in Hudson. She lived independently in her farm home until after her 100th birthday. Doris was a dedicated fulltime mother and housewife. She enjoyed gardening, reading, piano playing, feeding the birds, travel, painting, local women's clubs and family.
Survived by her son, R. Charles (Barbara) Garbe of Hudson; three grandsons, Steven (Jo Anne) Garbe of New Brighton, Minn., Roger (Becky) Garbe of Hudson, and John (Maria) Garbe of Woodbury; and six great-grandchildren, Cody, Brady, Amelia, Taebin, Henry and Isaac.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Robert Garbe; brother, Wallace Gausman; sister, Phyllis Fink; and an infant grandson.
A celebration of life will be held at 3 p.m. Friday, April 21, at Woodbury/Peaceful Grove UMC, 7465 Steepleview Rd., Woodbury, MN. Visitation will be held one hour before the service. Interment will be in the Woodbury United Methodist Cemetery, Woodbury, Minn. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Adoray Hospice.
