LETTER: Metropolitan Council is not accountable to the voters of the state
I see in today’s paper that the governor thinks that he was stabbed in the back in reference to his pay raises. I see that one of the largest raises went to the head of the Metropolitan Council. I think that the citizens of this state were stabbed in the back when the unelected Council was formed. I think that this is one glaring example of political patronage at its worst. We have a bunch of political cronies appointed to tell elected officials how to run their offices. I think that this is one layer of unelected government too many. What this state needs is recall and referendum. We don’t need a group that is immune from the power of the voters. All decisions should be made by elected officials who have to be responsible to the voters.
