The theme of the night was inspired by a poem.

“Come, come come. Grow old with me, the best is yet to be.”

The Robert Browning poem was repeated throughout the Woodbury Community Foundation 10th anniversary gala Saturday by “matriarch of Woodbury” Inez Oehlke and others who followed her speech.

The event, held at the Prom Center in Oakdale, celebrated the history of Woodbury with a heritage walk that featured founding families, artifacts from the old days and old school books.

The Woodbury Community Theater also performed a musical inspired by traditional numbers like the Sound of Music and Grease, but edited the lyrics to add references familiar to Woodbury residents.

The group started out with “The Ballad of Davy Crockett”:

“Dakota chieftain name of Little Crow,

Painted a rock red, years ago,

McHattie and Middleton said, ‘Ya know, this would be a fine spot for a Costco.’”
