Two local development companies got the go-ahead last week to begin construction on housing projects in the southern portion of Woodbury.

City Council approved Pioneer Place and Compass Pointe, both south of Dale Road and east of Pioneer Drive.

Michael Lee, Inc. plans to build 34 detached villas at Pioneer Place with an association to maintain lawns and shovel snow.

The project is similar to the Wyncrest neighborhood, which David Frosch said the company is finishing up this year.

Pioneer Place is intended to serve the empty nester looking to downsize into something smaller, he said, with maintenance free exterior products and 1,400 to 1,600 square-foot interiors.

Meanwhile, Maplewood Development, Inc. will work on Compass Pointe, which will be built on 20 acres.

The company plans to build 88 single family attached homes.
