Afton mayor resigns

Pat Snyder, Afton’s mayor, has submitted her resignation.

Snyder submitted her resignation late last week citing personal reasons and an increasingly busy schedule, City Administrator Ron Moorse said.Mayor Pat Snyder

Snyder’s resignation is effective immediately. She did not immediately respond to a message seeking comment.

Afton City Council will be meeting Thursday in a special meeting to discuss how to proceed with filling the mayoral seat mid-term. City Attorney Fritz Knaak will be present during the meeting.

Afton Council Member Joe Richter will serve as the city’s acting mayor during the vacancy.

Snyder  first began her involvement with the city in 1996 when she began serving on Afton Planning Commission. 

Snyder served on Afton Planning Commission for three years before being elected to Afton City Council in 1999. She served until 2002.

Snyder was elected as mayor in 2008, 2010 and again in 2012. Her third term as mayor runs through 2014.

Amber Kispert-Smith has been the schools and Afton reporter at the Woodbury Bulletin since 2008. She holds a bachelor’s degree in journalism from the University of Minnesota. She previously worked as a reporter for Press Publications in White Bear Lake.
