Woodbury Public Safety welcomed three new police officers this week, including one who's been part of the force since his teenage years.

Mayor Mary Giuliani Stephens swore in Brett Roddy, Garrett Kissner and Caitlin Jaworski at Wednesday's meeting.

The City Council Chambers was packed with friends and family of the officers who will fill spots left by retiring and resigning officers.

Roddy is a four-year veteran officer with the city of Mankato. He was also a paid-on-call firefighter/EMT for the Columbia Heights Fire Department for more than five years.

Kissner has been part of the Woodbury Public Safety team since he was a teenager, Public Safety Director Lee Vague said. He was a police explorer for seven years, a fire explorer for three and was hired as a community service and reserve officer in 2009.

"It's a real testament to someone who can spend a lot of time with a department and grow and also rise to the top of an external process," Vague said of Kissner, adding that the department received more than 200 applicants for the positions.

Jaworski has been employed as a forensic service - intake lead for Corner House since 2009, where she conducted interviews with the most vulnerable victims. She also serves as a Reserve Officer with the Bayport Police Department.

Jaworski's husband, Eric, was watching her ceremony from Afghanistan, where he is currently deployed.
