County applies for winter trails funding
Washington County Board approved an application for the cross-country ski grants-in-aid program from the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources. The grant application requests funding for maintaining trails at Lake Elmo Park Reserve, Cottage Grove Ravine Regional Park, St. Croix Bluffs Regional Park, Pine Point Regional Park and the Big Marine Park Reserve. The county is eligible for $21,428 in reimbursement based on trail usage.
In addition, the board approved a snowmobile trail grant application to the DNR, which it plans to use to pay the Star Trail Association, a group of 10 snowmobile clubs that maintain trails throughout the county.
The board also approved an agreement that allows the Star Trail Association to create a 12-foot-wide snowmobile trail in Lake Elmo Park Reserve, Cottage Grove Ravine Regional Park, Big Marine Park Reserve and the Hardwood Creek Regional Trail.
Sheriff's Office receives donations for life jackets, Mounted Patrol
The board accepted supplies from the SafeKids Coalition, valued at $2,349, for a new Life Jacket Loaner Station at the Lake Elmo Park Reserve. In addition, Lake Elmo Rotary has agreed to supply replacement life jackets when needed.
The county also approved a $1,000 donation through the Minnesota Sheriff's Posse Association Banquet to the Washington County Sheriff's Office. The funding will go towards first aid equipment and replacing old cold-weather jackets.
The July 24 County Board meeting lasted about 40 minutes. Jack Lavold was absent.
