Lake Middle School eighth grader Brock Albrecht shaved his head March 29, with the help of classmates and Salon Montage, after Matt Rasmussen's math class raised $1,000 for Pennies for Patients.2 / 2

Just in time for the warming temperatures, Lake Middle School eighth grader Brock Albrecht received a shorter, cooler, 'do last week.

Albrecht had his head shaved on March 29 as part of the school's Pennies for Patients fundraiser.

For the past three weeks, Lake has been collecting money for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.

The class that raised the most money received a pizza party.

However, for a little extra incentive, Albrecht promised Matt Rasmussen's math class that he would shave his head if the class could raise $1,000.

"I thought it would be a lot of fun," he said. "Plus, I needed a haircut."

Albrecht received his haircut with the help of his classmates, Salon Montage and even his teacher, Rasmussen.

"I don't think Brock was thinking we'd actually make a $1,000," Rasmussen said. "He was thinking he was safe."

Kelly Bowen, of Salon Montage, said she was happy to help out with the haircut.

"We're really honored that we were asked to be a part of this," she said.

Rasmussen said he could possibly consider setting a similar goal for next year's group of students.

"It's a lifelong thing to help out those who are going through hard time and are less fortunate," he said.
