Woodbury resident named St. Paul superintendent

Woodbury resident Valeria Silva is the new St. Paul schools chief.

The St. Paul school board decided Monday to promote Silva from chief academic officer to superintendent. She will lead the state's second-largest school district.

Silva beat out two other finalists for the St. Paul job, including Deborah Henton, a former South Washington County Schools teacher and Oltman Junior High assistant principal.

"I am truly humbled and honored with this responsibility I've been entrusted with," Silva said in a statement announcing her selection.

Silva was profiled by the Woodbury Bulletin in March 2008, when she was among 12 school officials nationally chosen for a superintendent training program.
