Board sets rules for school transfers
The District 833 School Board, in approving an appeals process for attendance boundaries that go into effect in the fall of 2009, also gave the nod for Voluntary Request to Transfer rules.
Under the policy, the district will accept individual requests to transfer to another school when new boundaries go into effect but requests won't be evaluated until after April of 2009.
Priority will be given to students who live within walking distance of the requested school.
As is current policy, transfers can be approved if there is room in the school and parents agree to be responsible for transportation.
If a request is approved, parents must annually re-apply.
No transfers, however, will be granted for students in grades nine through 12 in 2009-10 when East Ridge High School opens.
