School Board hires new Middleton Elementary principal

SCHOOL DISTRICT 833 — Arthur Williams is the new principal at Middleton Elementary School in Woodbury. His hiring was approved by the South Washington County School Board at their Aug. 9 meeting.

Williams spent the last five years as principal at Jefferson Elementary STEM School in the Winona Area School District.

According to his LinkedIn profile, Williams also spent a year as a principal at Kansas City Public Schools. He earned his K-12 Principals License, as well as a Master of Education Degree in Elementary Education and a Bachelor of Science Degree in Foundations of Education from the University of Minnesota Twin Cities.

In a statement, director of communications Shelly Schafer highlighted his rigorous support and promotion of science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) at Jefferson Elementary through the creation of engineering expos. She also said that Williams is certified as a trainer in engineering for schools through the Minnesota Science Museum and Next Generation Science Standards.

He succeeds Sara Palodichuk, who accepted a new position as activities director for East Ridge High School. He began his job Aug. 13.

The board also voted to rename the Oltman Middle School swimming pool to South Washington County Schools Community Pool. The pool is located in the former Oltman Middle School in St. Paul Park. The building is being converted to house the new Nuevas Fronteras Spanish Immersion school.
