District 833 budgets approved
School District 833's final budget for 2015-16 has been approved.
South Washington County School Board members passed that budget and a preliminary budget for the 2016-17 school year at their June 23 meeting.
The 2015-16 budget was adjusted to include a higher fund balance because expected costs of a new teachers' union contract will not be realized by June 30, finance director Dan Pyan said. The contract remains unresolved, and expenses related to the teachers' contract will be included in the 2016-17 budget. That preliminary budget includes general fund expenses totaling $215.8 million, up from $193.9 million this year. Salary increases, in part as a result of new contracts, represent the largest year-over-year increase in the general fund.
Employee salaries and benefits also makes up the largest portion of the general fund budget.
