Talks continue on land for new middle school

Negotiations continue on District 833’s interest in land in northwest Cottage Grove for the new Oltman Middle School.

The South Washington County School Board met in closed session Feb. 4 to discuss offers or counteroffers on the purchase of 54 acres along the south side of 65th Street east of Geneva Avenue. The land is owned by Bailey Nurseries.

The district has identified that as the preferred site of the new Oltman, and the land purchase and building construction will be funded by the $96 million bond voters approved in November. The other three middle schools will see improvements, and the district will remodel the existing Oltman building in St. Paul Park and make it the new home of the Nuevas Fronteras Spanish immersion school.

The board took no action after its closed meeting Feb. 4.
