Bernhardson now 1 of 2 vying for IGH superintendent job

A District 833 assistant superintendent is one step closer to a new job with the Inver Grove Heights School District.

Dave Bernhardson was named one of two finalists for the Inver Grove Heights superintendent’s position on Thursday by the school board there following a series of interviews. Bernhardson was among six first-round candidates for the job whose names were made public earlier this month.

He will be competing for the job with John Bezek, the assistant superintendent at Shakopee Public Schools. According to a bio listed on the Inver Grove Heights website, Bezek was a former principal at Tartan High School in Oakdale and had been an assistant principal at Park High School.

Berhardson’s past experience includes roles as Woodbury Elementary School principal and as a teacher at Inver Grove Elementary School. In his current role as a District 833 assistant superintendent – from which he resigned on April 17 – Berhardson oversees elementary instruction.

Ken LaCroix, the superintendent search consultant for Inver Grove schools, said the two finalists will tour the district on Wednesday, April 30, and on Thursday, May 1. The Inver Grove Heights School Board will meet to interview both candidates a second time on May 1, he said.

The board will likely make its final decision “soon after" the interview, LaCroix said.
