833 board expected to opt for $3 million in projects

When the District 833 School Board meets on Jan. 21, a $3 million list of project spending is expected to be approved from $5 million left from the construction of East Ridge High School, improvements to Woodbury and Park high schools and two classroom additions.

A task force, which met throughout December and on Jan. 5, proposed $2,792,000 in priority projects. It also had a supplemental priority list of $245,750 in projects the task force said only met two board "guiding principles." The board had stipulated projects had to meet at least three.

The supplemental list that is back on the priority list includes:

• Change the location of the ticket booth at Woodbury Stadium for $55,000

• Improve long jump, pole vault and triple jump runways at Wolfpack Stadium for $75,000

• Replace sound system at Wolfpack Stadium for $35,000

• Renovate Wolfpack Stadium press box for $50,000

• Renovate Woodbury Stadium press box for $20,000

• Reimburse Park wrestling boosters $6,000 for install of sub-floor in new wrestling room and Woodbury boosters for $4,700 for sub-flooring. East Ridge's flooring was installed as part of construction.

Board members Laurie Johnson and Tracy Brunnette were absent from the special workshop meeting that was held Jan. 12.

The board has yet to determine whether the additional $2 million will be saved for future projects, used to reduce future debt or a combination of the two choices.
