Trial of former Park girls hockey coach starts Monday
The trial of a former Park High School girls hockey coach accused of having sex with a pair of former players when they were 16 years-old shortly after he stepped down from the position is set to begin Monday in Washington County District Court in Stillwater.
Eric P. Darwitz, 32, is facing charges on two counts of third-degree criminal sexual conduct stemming from a 2006 incident in which it is alleged he provided two teen girls who had played under his guidance the previous season with alcohol and then, along with another man, had sex with them at his Woodbury residence.
The county attorney's office asserts that Darwitz was still in a position of authority when he had intercourse with the girls. The other man was not charged.
Jury selection began Monday morning in Judge William B. Ekstrum's courtroom. Cottage Grove Police Department investigators said they expected to testify Tuesday.
