Inmate gets an extra year for smuggling drugs into prison
Rene Darcy Marion III's incarceration just got 15 months longer.
The 22-year-old Grand Forks, N.D., resident was serving time for felony burglary, property damage and drug possession convictions in 2013.
While at the Minnesota Correctional Facility in Stillwater, Marion brought contraband into the prison and was convicted of the new felony charges in April.
Homemade pop-up greeting cards mailed to Marion and other offenders contained tetrahydocannabinol (THC) wax. Inmates were working together to smuggle the controlled substances into the prison.
Marion paid $750 for 5 grams of the drug, according to phone calls monitored by special investigators for the Minnesota Department of Corrections.
