Suspect in Hudson theft crashes on Hudson Road in Oakdale
Derek Lee Paulson, 30, of Amery, Wis., awaits his next step in facing two felony charges related to the theft of a motorcycle and fleeing a peace officer July 18.
He has twice appeared in Washington County District Court and is due back in early September.
According to the complaint:
At 9:13 a.m. July 18, dispatch alerted the Minnesota State Patrol to a request for assistance stopping a motorcycle fleeing from Hudson police. The driver was a suspect in theft from a Hudson business, armed with a knife. The motorcycle had been reported stolen out of St. Paul.
Traffic cameras were used to monitor the vehicle as it entered Minnesota from Wisconsin, until law enforcement arrived.
Located near the intersection of Interstate 94 and Century Avenue, the driver appeared to be “extremely inexperienced” on a bike, a state trooper said. The vehicle was traveling slowly and weaving from side to side.
When the trooper attempted a traffic stop, Paulson continued, turning onto Hudson Road, toward Landfall. The suspect lost control of the motorcycle and ejected off of it, landing both the vehicle and Paulson in the Harley Davidson parking lot in Oakdale.
Paulson told police he made a bad decision.
He was transported to Region’s Hospital for evaluation.
