Woodbury police: Officer fired weapon Wednesday during suspect apprehension

A burglary suspect was arrested Wednesday by Woodbury police in St. Paul during an incident that involved an officer discharging his weapon

Woodbury Public Safety spokeswoman Michelle Okada said Woodbury police were following up on a burglary that led them to St. Paul's east side. Initial reports indicated the incident occurred near Case and White Bear avenues.

A male suspect was located and attempted to evade capture, she said. While attempting to apprehend the suspect, “vehicles were damaged,” Okada said.

She confirmed that at some point during the apprehension, an officer fired at least one round.

Neither the officers on the scene nor the suspect were injured during the incident, Okada said.

The St. Paul Police Department will be conducting an independent investigation of the incident, according to Okada.

More details were expected to be released Thursday.
