Oakdale woman receives prison time in drug case

An Oakdale woman arrested by Woodbury police on drug charges was sentenced to prison Thursday in Washington County District Court.

Danielle Jae Brand, 26, was sentenced to more than three years by Washington County District Court Judge Ellen Maas. She had been convicted of first-degree drug possession.

Brand was arrested by Woodbury police May 22, 2012, during a traffic stop in Oakdale. A Washington County K-9 unit performed a "drug sniff" around the vehicle and alerted officers to a particular area of the vehicle.

Authorities seized the vehicle and searched it. A large bag inside the vehicle bearing Brand's name was discovered to contain almost a pound of crystal methamphetamine, according to Washington County Attorney Pete Orput.

Also inside the bag was a laptop computer that had been reported stolen from the Glenwood City (Wis.) Public Library in 2011.

Brand had a previous drug possession conviction from 2009.

"This office congratulates the fine police work of the Woodbury Police Department and the Washington County Sheriff's Office in this case," Orput said in a news release. "My office is committed to prosecute drug dealers as vigorously as the law will allow. We feel we have accomplished that task here, and wish to send that message to other drug-dealing scofflaws."
