Inmate found dead at Oak Park Heights prison

The Washington County Attorney's Office is expected to file murder charges against an Oak Park Heights prison inmate who allegedly strangled a fellow prisoner Monday, authorities said.

Inmate Shane Lawrence Cooper, 30, was found dead Dec. 2 on the floor in his cell with a ligature around his neck, according to the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension.

The BCA said surveillance footage captured another inmate, 39-year-old Benjamin Heath Beck, entering Cooper's cell shortly before he was found. Beck was identified as the sole suspect in the murder.

BCA agents continue to investigate the case with help from multiple agencies who will then present findings to the Washington County Attorney's Office for review.
