WHS grad Edwards dismissed from Gophers football team

Woodbury High School graduate Lamonte Edwards has been dismissed from the University of Minnesota football team.

Paul Rovnak, associate director of athletic communications for the Gophers football team, confirmed Edwards was dismissed from the team for “violating team rules.” Rovnak did not disclose what the infraction was and offered no further comment. According to a Star Tribune report, Edwards was arrested in connection with the theft of a cellphone from another university athlete on campus.

Edwards, a 2010 WHS graduate, played in 11 games last year for the gophers as a linebacker and made his lone start of the season against New Hampshire.
