Craving a burger? Maybe some really tasty custard? Well, you're in luck.

Woodbury's new Culver's restaurant opened March 14, bringing with it the company's well-known ButterBurgers and Fresh Frozen Custard.

Owned by Pete Dwyer and Ben Gathje, the Woodbury location is several years in the coming. The pair started looking for the right location back in 2010, but it was not until about two years ago that they found the ideal location—on a corner of Woodbury Drive and Commerce Drive—and decided to move ahead with their plans to bring a Culver's to this community.

"We needed the right time and the right location to align," Dwyer said. "The opportunity came and we jumped on it."

In designing the building's interior, Dwyer said they were very aware of the restaurant's potential to attract sports teams and other student groups coming through the area. With that in mind, the dining room and the patio were designed to have open-area tables for families but also some tables set apart by dividers for those larger groups.

"In designing this location, we wanted a high-quality atmosphere in the dining room and patio area, and ample parking in our parking lot," Dwyer said.

As a company, Culver's promotes being part of the community. And Woodbury's location is no different. Already, the management has reached out to area elementary schools to start its Kids of Character program to recognize outstanding students. They also sponsor a lacrosse team, and are preparing to get involved with activities in local schools and around the community.

The first Culver's opened in 1995, in Minnesota. Since then, the company has expanded to 23 states, and has hundreds of locations. Woodbury's store is No. 566 for the company.

The new Culver's brings 65 new jobs to Woodbury, as well. Josh Malaske is the location's general manager, and Emily Lindbeck is the area operations manager.

Culver's is located at 520 Woodbury Drive. Hours are 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Mondays through Sundays. From Memorial Day through Labor Day, the drive through will be open until 11 p.m.
