Same business, new location for Pet Evolution

Something must be going right for the folks at Pet Evolution, because after only three years, the Woodbury business is already expanding and moving to a new location.

Currently located near the intersection of Valley Creek Road and Woodbury Drive, Pet Evolution is scheduled to open its new location along Commerce Drive in just a week. While not much larger, square footage-wise, the new location offers amenities and services the current site cannot, co-owner Rian Thiele said.

Pet Evolution is not a chain store, but a product of a couple of people who love animals and who wanted to offer healthier foods and treats for pets. The goal, three years ago, was to create a family-friendly location where pets and their people could go shopping together, he said.

“We’re much like the neighborhood hardware store. We don’t just point customers to products, we walk them to whatever they’re looking for,” Thiele said. “We help you out as much as we can.”

The store carries limited ingredient foods, as well as grain-free products and some frozen, raw foods. There are treats and toys for dogs and cats, too. Pet Evolution also carries foods for small animals.

While the business is doing well in its current location, customers started asking for more services, like grooming or self-serve dog washing facilities, Thiele said. The space where Pet Evolution is located simply could not be renovated to add those services, so Thiele and his business partner, Mike Osborn, started to look around Woodbury for a new location.

They found a vacancy along Commerce Drive, nestled between Sam’s Club and Target. Thiele is happy with the new location, not only for its size and visibility, but because there are other pet-friendly businesses in the area, as well.

The new location offers a grooming room, and Pet Evolution is bringing on a new, experienced groomer to provide the service. It also has a separate room with four self-serve tubs for families who want to come in and wash their dogs together. The self-serve dog-wash service includes shampoos, towels and dryers for the pets.

“We want to make it fun for the families, someplace where they can bring their kids, but where there will also be the least amount of stress on the dogs,” Thiele said.

The current location will close on March 16, to allow the staff to pack up merchandise and move it to the new site. The new location is scheduled to open March 19, but Thiele invites customers to check the store’s Facebook page, Pet Evolution, because the store may open earlier if things are ready to go.

The new location will be similar in design, but he believes the layout will make it easier for customers to find products. All of the staff is transferring, too, so they will be able to help find items, if necessary.

“It’s going to be pretty much the same store. Same people, same friendly faces, just a new look,” Thiele said.

Pet Evolution’s new location is at 429 Commerce Drive in Woodbury. For more information, visit the Facebook page, or find them online,
