Going 'Rogue' in Woodbury

Ashlee Schwartz works around sharp instruments all day long, so it might come as little surprise that she sought out something edgy when picking a name for her new hair salon.

She settled on Rogue Beauty Bar, which Schwartz said fits the bill.

“I wanted something that was androgynous and industrial-chic,” Schwartz said, noting that her shop is open to male and female clients.

Rogue Beauty Bar is located at Sola Salons in Woodbury Lakes. Sola leases 36 individual studios to beauty-related businesses, which each have their own enclosed space.

Schwartz said that unique environment creates a one-on-one atmosphere between stylist and client.

“It’s a personal environment,” the Stillwater resident said.

Schwartz opened Rogue on March 3, which marked her first splash as a small business owner after working for years at a larger salon.

She worked for eight years at Spalon Montage in Chanhassen, but after moving with her husband to Stillwater, sought out a change. Schwartz said she had been diving deeper into the educational aspect of beauty and fashion.

She said she is better able to cultivate that opportunity through Rogue.

Rogue offers styling services – including haircuts, styling, coloring, extensions and smoothing – in addition to makeup amenities, strip lashes and eyelash extensions.

“I can complete someone’s whole look” Schwartz said.

That also means bridal services and getting brides’ “up-dos” just right.

“I think it is creative and brings you out of your box,” she said of bridal jobs.

What’s more, Schwartz said the private environment allows for clients to discuss issues they might not otherwise – things like dry scalp or alopecia – in a crowded salon.

That, Schwartz said, or just to unwind.

“Sometimes I feel more therapist than hairdresser,” she said with a laugh.

Rogue Beauty Bar is located at Sola Salons, 9100 Hudson Road No. 100, and online at
