The man who was injured Monday after a section of a construction project collapsed at Liberty Ridge Elementary was not seriously injured.

According to District 833 Communications Director Barb Brown, the worker -- who had been hospitalized at Regions Hospital in St. Paul after the accident -- was treated for minor injuries and released the next day.

Woodbury police were called to the accident around 3 p.m., but the injured worker was already pulled out from underneath the structure by the time they arrived, officer Tony Ofstead said.

Brown said workers were installing roof trusses "when evidently one heaved," causing 20 60-foot trusses to collapse.

The subcontractor on the project was RTL Contractors, working under the general contracting firm of Kue Construction of Watkins, Minn.

Across the parking lot from Liberty Ridge, owner of the Stepping Stones Early Learning Center building, Amy Wiechman, watched the whole thing happen.

"Once one came down, they all went," she said of the roof trusses. "I think it pulled the back wall down too."

Brown said construction is expected to resume soon, though the impact of the accident on the project's time table has not yet been announced.

She said the accident is being investigated.

Crews were working on the so-called Liberty Ridge Site 2, which is a $4.5 million addition to the school, approved in an effort to solve an overcrowding problem.

The school is located in the Stonemill Farms development. The expanded facility is poised to provide space for up to 180 kindergarteners and 60 preschoolers.
