Interstate 94 partially reopened at 7:45 a.m. at Roberts Monday morning after enough spilled fuel had burned off to safely allow vehicles to travel around the closed overpass using on- and off-ramps.

Firefighters and investigators remain at the scene, trying to determine what caused a semi- fuel tanker to strike a support on the north side of the overpass, overturn and burn, killing the driver.

The Wisconsin State Patrol was being assisted by St. Croix County sheriff's deputies and firefighters from Roberts, Hudson, River Falls and New Richmond.

The accident happened about 5:25 a.m. at MM 10.

As of 5:55 a.m., both east- and westbound I-94 were closed between Hammond and Exit 4 as was the westbound on-ramp at Roberts.

Traffic is not being allowed to use the Highway 65 overpass.

More details will be posted when available.
