UPDATE: Motorcyclist dies after fleeing police, crashing into trees on Valley Creek Road

A motorcyclist who crashed into a line of trees following a police chase in Woodbury Friday morning has died, according to the Minnesota State Patrol.

Robert Dennis Davis, 30, of Madison Lake, Minn., was driving northbound on highway 61 in Cottage Grove when police received speeding and road rage complaints regarding the motorcycle shortly before 8 a.m. Friday, State Patrol Lt. Eric Roeske said.

A state trooper located the motorcyclist near the area of Lower Afton Road and Highway 61.

"When the trooper activated his emergency lights to stop the motorcycle the motorcyclist took off and fled from the trooper," Roeske said.

Davis was going eastbound on Lower Afton Road toward Valley Creek Road when at the curve of the road, he ended up crashing straight into a patch of trees, he added.

He was transported to Regions Hospital in St. Paul where he was being treated for life-threatening injuries.

"This was all avoidable by him just stopping when the trooper tried to pull him over," Roeske said.

Davis was not wearing a helmet at the time and it is unknown if alcohol was a factor in the crash.
