Medtronic's Woodbury data center adds generator

Fridley-based medical device company Medtronic Inc. is spending more than $2 million to add a second emergency generator for its Woodbury data center, according to Woodbury City Administrator Clint Gridley.

The company bought the center, which is located at 515 Bielenberg Drive, from St. Paul Travelers Inc. in 2005.

Woodbury Economic Development Manager Janelle Schmitz said the center is not a "huge employment generator" with less than 10 people operating the building, but it supports a number of other facilities that create plenty of employment in the Twin Cities.

The company invests in emergency generators for security reasons, she added.

"They always have backups and backups to their backups," Schmitz said.
