Family's disease research effort off and running

More than $10,000 has been raised for a Woodbury family's new disease research foundation.

Pioneering Unique Cures for Kids (PUCK) is wrapping up its first major donation drive, which was part of a Children's Cancer Research Fund 10K race.

Lonni Mooreland said Team PUCK raised $10,475 for research into rare diseases affecting children. The event was Saturday, but donations tied to the fundraiser can be taken through Wednesday.

Lonni and Jay Mooreland of Woodbury founded PUCK after their nine-month-old daughter Sarah died of complications from a rare skin disease called Recessive Dystrophic Epidermollysis Bullosa. That is among the diseases to be researched with donations to PUCK.
