No serious injuries in squad car crash

A Woodbury police squad was involved in a two-vehicle crash shortly before noon today at Valley Creek Road and Radio Drive. No serious injuries were reported.

A Woodbury police officer was transported to a St. Paul hospital today as a precautionary measure after her squad car collided with another vehicle shortly before noon at a busy Woodbury intersection.

Officer Kim Schmitt was not seriously injured in the 11:47 a.m. crash at Valley Creek Road and Radio Drive, Woodbury police Capt. Steve Wills said. The driver of the other vehicle, whose name was not immediately released, did not report any injuries.

Schmitt was transported by ambulance to Regions Hospital. She complained of neck pain, but "nothing major," Wills said.

Schmitt was traveling north on Radio Drive to respond to a medical call at Cub Foods when her car collided with the other vehicle, which was headed west on Valley Creek Road. Schmitt had activated her squad car's lights and siren, Wills said, but the crash is under investigation so it is not yet known why the crash occurred.

The crash caused substantial damage to the front end of the squad car. Both vehicles were spun about 180 degrees in the collision.

The crash slowed and detoured lunch-hour traffic.

Schmitt has been with the department three years, Wills said.
