Want a say in city spending? Attend meeting

Woodbury residents have an opportunity to tell city officials how to spend public money.

The city scheduled a public meeting for 6 p.m. Thursday to gather input on how it should prioritize certain federal funds. The meeting is at City Hall.

The city has become a direct recipient of the Community Development Block Grant program, which provides dollars for a variety of purposes. Permitted spending includes affordable housing, economic development, parks and public works. The city has received the funding in past years, but it was administered through Washington County.

Grants could be for $200,000 to $250,000 a year and may increase over time.

"It's important to have citizen input on that because we want to know if people are more interested in senior living (development) or are they more interested in fixing sidewalks?" Woodbury housing specialist Karl Batalden said, mentioning two possible areas of grant spending.
