Breast-feeding while drunk mother arrested again
Grand Forks, N.D. - A Grand Forks woman who earlier in the day was sentenced for child neglect in a case of breast-feeding while drunk was arrested Friday night in a tire-slashing incident.
Officers went to Stacey Anvarinia's apartment building, 4812 6th Ave. N., at about 7:45 p.m., responding to a complaint that a tire on a pickup in the building's parking lot had been slashed. A person at the scene blamed 26-year-old Anvarinia for the damage, police said.
Officers did not talk to Anvarinia then, but were called back to the building at about 10 p.m. for a disturbance involving Anvarinia, who appeared intoxicated, police said.
Anvarinia was arrested, taken to Altru Hospital and then to the Grand Forks County jail where she posted $500 to bond out on Saturday afternoon.
She is expected to be charged with criminal mischief, according to a police news release.
Earlier Friday in state District Court, Anvarinia was sentenced to six months for child neglect, a Class C felony. Anvarinia was arrested in February after police observed her breast-feed her 6-week-old child while intoxicated. The unusual case has garnered international media attention.
Judge Sonja Clapp allowed Anvarinia to do at least part of her time in a substance-abuse treatment facility, but she must complete the program to get credit for time served. The judge permitted her to serve any remaining time on electronic home monitoring or work release.
Clapp ordered Anvarinia to report to the jail or let authorities know she is at a treatment center by Aug. 31. Her sentence also included three years of supervised probation.
It's not clear what Friday's arrest will mean for Anvarinia's sentence. She's scheduled to appear in court on the criminal mischief charge on Aug. 26.
