County applies for money to add to HOME investment partnership plan

Washington County will apply for more than $218,000 in Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funds, made available through the federal stimulus dollars.

Washington County commissioners voted May 26 to approve changes in the county's CDBG and Home Investment Partnership program (HOME ). The federal funds are intended to help create jobs, promote economic recovery, and foster investment in transportation, environmental protection and energy independence.

If funds are granted, County Community Services plans to award funding to the County Housing and Redevelopment Authority to:

• Fund elevator replacement at the Ann Bodlovick Senior Housing in Stillwater to replace an elevator which was recently found to be out of compliance with current codes, for $110,000.

• Fund the rehabilitation of three homes in Oakdale for people with mental illness, to upgrade the homes' energy efficiency, for $65,538.

• Fund the exterior rehabilitation of the Brick Pond Apartments in Stillwater, for $20,854.

In addition, $21,800 will be used by Washington County to administer the program.

It is anticipated that the funds will be received by July 15, and spent by March 31, 2010.
