Girl Scout cookie sales have begun

Senior Girl Scout Troop 52316 hosted the third annual Woodbury Cookie Rally on Sunday, Jan. 11 for over 100 Woodbury Daisy, Brownie and Junior Girl Scouts, earning leadership hours required for their Gold Award.

The older girl scouts created stations for the younger scouts to learn age appropriate skills used in the Girl Scout cookie program. Activities included learning to set troop and personal sales goals, practicing cookie selling and making change, a puppet show about the safety rules of selling cookies door-to-door, and learning about the Cookie Care & Share program where customers purchase packages of cookies for troops to deliver to recipient organizations.

Scouts also cast their ballot for their favorite cookie on a paper strip, color-coded to each cookie variety and added to a cookie paper chain to visually proclaim the favorite cookie winner. The newest cookie Dulce de Leche scored well, but no recount was needed. Thin Mints were the favorite by several feet.

Girl Scout "Cookie Go Day," Saturday, Jan. 17, was the beginning of traditional door-to-door and family and friends cookie sales. Cookie booths will open in Woodbury on Friday, Feb. 27. An online cookie booth locator will be available at starting in late February. Cookie sales conclude on March 29.
