Music therapy for children with disabilities

Parents in the east metro who have a child with an intellectual or developmental disability are invited to round up the family and enjoy a free night of musical fun with Arc Greater Twin Cities on Thursday, Sept. 18, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Woodbury United Methodist Church, 7465 Steepleview Road, Woodbury.

The evening will begin with a presentation about the benefits of music therapy by music therapists from MacPhail Center for Music and will be followed by group lessons that give everyone a chance to make music on instruments from many cultures. Families will also enjoy a dinner of ethnic foods plus entertainment and crafts from various cultural traditions.

The event is geared toward families with children age 16 and younger but is open to everyone. There is no cost, but families must register by Friday, Sept. 12. To register or get more information, call Arc at (952) 920-0855. If you need special accommodations, notify Arc three weeks before the event.

Sponsors for the event include the Family Support Committee of the Washington County Interagency Early Intervention Committee (IEIC), Washington County Children's Mental Health Action Collaborative and Parent Advisory Group, Human Services, Inc., and other providers.
