Campfires shed a little light on nature

Washington County Parks will host free "Campfire" programs Saturday, Aug. 16 at 7:15 p.m. in the campground amphitheaters at Lake Elmo Park Reserve and St. Croix Bluffs Regional Park. A $5 vehicle fee will be charged at the entrance to the parks for any vehicles not displaying a current park pass.

Lake Elmo Park Reserve, 1515 Keats Avenue North, Lake Elmo, will host a naturalist from the Dodge Nature Center who will present a program about honeybees - the "sweet" creatures they are and the benefits of being a queen bee.

The park is located at the intersection of County Road 19 and County Road 10, one mile north of Interstate 94. Call (651) 430-8370 for additional information on this and other programs at the Reserve.

At St. Croix Bluffs Regional Park, a naturalist from the Dodge Nature Center will present a campfire program about owls, the silent hunters of the night. The presentation will feature a live barred owl. Participants will learn about adaptations that make them successful at capturing prey.

St. Croix Bluffs Regional Park is located along the St. Croix River on County Road 21, between County Road 76 and County Road 78 in Denmark Township. Call (651) 430-8240 or visit for additional information.
