Reading is rewarding

Librarians in Washington County and throughout the nation are encouraging kids to have fun reading during summer vacation 2008. The "Look What's Cookin' At Your Library" reading programs will be offered June 2 through Aug. 23.

According to information provided by the library, "studies show that students who read over the summer months are better prepared for school success in the fall."

A summer reading program for children, will reward those who read 20 hours (or are read to for 20 hours) over the summer, with a certificate and an award while supplies last. In addition, those completing 20 hours of reading will have their names entered into a prize drawing.

Children may participate in "Read & Win drawings." For every book read during the summer, kids write or draw a picture about the book on an entry form and place the form in a drawing box; three drawings for prizes will be held at every Washington County Branch Library.

The teen reading program "Plug In To Your Library," for youth ages 12 to 18 provide teens an opportunity to enter a drawing for prizes. Book review forms completed by the teen and returned to the library, will be entered into the drawing.

Book clubs, special performances and story times will be held throughout the County this summer. Event schedules are available at the library, 8595 Central Park Place, Woodbury, or by visiting
