A new veterinary clinic and dog daycare will be one of four businesses to replace Woodbury's Craft Beer and Kitchen.
City Council approved a conditional-use permit Dec. 13 for Wellhaven Veterinary Clinic.
The 5,000-square-foot facility will sit between a retail building and drive-through coffee shop slated for Commons Plaza, a 2.3 acre site on Radio Drive and Tamarack Road proposed by Florida-Based developer 700 Comm.
Plans for the development, which council members approved at the end of August, include 14,000 square feet of retail buildings. Craft closed earlier that month after more than 20 years of business.
Developers originally intended the space for retail and restaurants, but Woodbury planning commissioners unanimously approved the clinic earlier this month.
"There was some anticipation that this might be a restaurant, so there was some surprise when the doggy daycare showed up," Planning Commissioner Anne Burt said. "It's not our place to decide what goes in any particular location."
Commissioners, however, offered their approval with several conditions to address concerns over dog waste.
The permit prohibits outdoor storage or fencing, overnight kennels and landscaping materials that can tolerate animal waste.
Dogs must be leashed while entering and exiting the building, and the maximum number of dogs allowed at the facility could be subject to a permit amendment if the city receives nuisance complaints.
