Historical society receives state award
The Washington County Historical Society has received a Minnesota History Award for its publication of "Company K in the Border War: The Stillwater National Guard in Texas 1916" at the Minnesota Alliance of Local History Museums conference in Walker, Minn.
Shown are Brent Peterson, executive director of the Washington County Historical Society, and Jill Wohnoutka, executive director of the Kandiyohi County Historical Society and MALHM board representative.
The publication follows the escapades of Mexican bandits led by Francisco "Pancho" Villa, who raided across the border. In response, the United States dispatched a punitive expedition into Mexico under General John J. Pershing and called up the National Guard for backup.
