Park-Woodbury girls lacrosse: Royal Pack takes down Mustangs 9-4 in season finale

Park senior Kayla Guanella led the Royal-Pack offense with three goals in the team's 9-4 win over Mounds View in the regular-season finale.

The Park-Woodbury girls lacrosse team ended its regular season in style, beating Suburban East Conference foe Mounds View 9-4 on Tuesday, May 12 in decisive fashion to end up in third place in the confernce - it's best-ever finish in the SEC.

The Royal Pack (8-7: 7-6 SEC) celebrated its senior night at Wolfpack Stadium by opening up a 3-0 lead in the game's first five minutes, then stretched a 5-3 halftime advantage into an 8-3 lead with three-straight second half goals.

Park co-head coach Scott Leonard said the nine goals was the most the Royal Pack has ever scored against Mounds View - a team that Park-Woodbury hasn't beaten the past two seasons.

Park senior Kayla Guanella led the Royal-Pack offense on the night with three goals. Woodbury sophomore Jackie Hegg and Park senior Amanda McNeese each had two goals, while Park juniors Erin Spinks and Holly Frankenberg each added one goal.

Park senior goalie Melanie Currey anchored a strong defensive effort in the game, holding Mounds View to one second-half goal, which the Mustangs scored with under two minutes remaining - when the game was well in hand for the Royal Pack.

Park-Woodbury will now wait to learn its seed in next week's section playoffs. Park co-head coach Kyle Kane said the decision would be made Thursday and that the team hoped four a No. 4 seed, which would give it at least one home playoff game.
