Ten file for District 833 School Board seats

Five District 833 School Board seats are up for reelection this fall, and 10 people have applied to fill the spots.

Candidates could apply for one of two two-year terms or three four-year terms.

Those in the primary for the remaining two years of Carrie Olson's term include: Tracy Brunnette, incumbent, Cottage Grove; Leo Wasescha, Woodbury; and Karen Buckeye, Woodbury.

There will be a primary election for that seat Tuesday, Sept. 11, and the top two candidates will go onto the general election.

Katy McElwee Stevens, Newport, is running for the remaining two years of Al Olson's term. Olson died shortly after being elected two years ago and Stevens was appointed to fill Olson's spot.

Ellen Ayers, Cottage Grove, will oppose Stevens in the general election.

Jim Gelbmann and Ron Kath, both incumbents, are running for re-election for two four-year terms.

Also running for four-year terms are: Alberder Gillespie, Woodbury; Russell Williams, Cottage Grove; and Leslie Boyd, Woodbury.

According to state election law, seats filled by appointment are up for election in the next official election.

Candidates have until Thursday, July 19, to withdraw.
