Klobuchar has history of prompter problems

Klobuchar may need to memorize her speech if the past is any indication.

Before she spoke to the party's convention in Boston four years ago, former Vice President Walter Mondale reminded Klobuchar of the time Jimmy Carter called famed Minnesota politician Hubert Humphrey "Hubert Horatio Hornblower."

Mondale blames the misidentification on a problem with a prompter the former president was using to read his speech.

Klobuchar told Mondale that the prompter incident was decades earlier, and the devices used to display speeches for speechmakers had progressed in that time.

Just before Klobuchar got up to give her national convention speech in 2004, Sen. Patrick Leahy, D-Vt., encountered prompter problems. Klobuchar looked down at Mondale, who just gave a knowing nod.

Klobuchar delivered the speech "from my heart," without even trying to read it, although a Democratic official slipped a written copy of the speech in front of her when she began wandering.
