For the Patraw family of Cottage Grove, the holidays were made extra special by the birth of a New Year’s baby.

New Year’s Eve was celebrated “a lot different” than other years, said Nicole, the mother of McKenna, the first baby born at Woodwinds Health Campus in 2016. “Instead of going out and having fun, I was in labor. It was fun in its own way.”

McKenna was due on Christmas Day, but the couple wasn’t surprised by the delay. Both big sister, Lilly, 8, and big brother Owen, 1-1/2, were born after their due dates, as well.

With McKenna, Nicole said, “we switched one holiday for the other. We were excited that she was due on Christmas. It made the holidays that much more special.”

Now that she’s been born on New Year’s, on her future birthdays, “she’ll have to share the spotlight.”

She was the main event for the Nicole and Eric last week, though. As the ball dropped at Times Square in New York City, though, expectant father Eric slept and Nicole took a catnap.

“We have celebrating to make up from this year,” Nicole said.

McKenna was born at 1:08 p.m. Jan. 1. She weighed 8 pounds, 5 ounces, and was 20.5 inches long.
