When a candidate for office cannot withstand scrutiny of his or her positions on the issues, that candidate often resorts to smears and innuendo, painting the opposition as "the other,” somehow less American, less patriotic, less deserving of a voice in the Democratic process.
El Tinklenberg’s recent Viewpoint (“Light bulb act may miss the forest for the trees,” Bulletin, April 16) suggests that Congresswoman Michele Bachman’s “Light Bulb Freedom of Choice Act” is focusing on a single tree rather than the entire forest.
Congresswoman Michele Bachmann’s recent venture into the forest of environmental politics caused an avalanche of publicity, but it is doubtful that she will win the hearts and minds of anyone interested in shaving a few dollars off their electric bill.
