The Washington County Board of Commissioners made it clear that the county is not in the business of operating transit services when it voted 5-0 April 14 to endorse a Metropolitan Council plan to continue to allow Metro Transit to manage Dial-A-Ride services in the county.
Amid all the talk about tough economic times and tight budgets, Washington County Commissioners didn’t make it easy on themselves when it came time to discuss and vote on their salaries during their Dec. 16 board meeting.
Washington County’s representatives on a metro-wide transit improvement board have raised concerns in recent weeks on how the board will distribute funds collected from the five contributing counties’ respective sales taxes.
Throughout my service on the Washington County Board of Commissioners, I’ve had to make my share of difficult decisions. The vote this spring concerning the statewide transit tax was one of the tougher ones.
