At 2:30 a.m., Afton City Council member was declared the winner over challenger Kuchen Meyer. Richter received 63.74 percent of vote, whereas Meyer generated 35.78 percent of the vote.
In terms of the two questions facing Afton: "Should Afton adopt a charter?" and "Should the Afton Charter Commission be eliminated?" 70.05 percent of Afton resident voted "no" to the charter, whereas 67.95 percent voted "yes" to eliminating the Afton Charter Commission.
The 2010 race for the Ward 2 Afton City Council seat may seem somewhat familiar. Current council member Joe Richter will face off against challenger Kuchen Meyer, a former council member, who Richter defeated in the 2006 election.
Nicholas Ortiz said he realizes there is more to being a Woodbury City Council member than meets the eye. The television news producer for Twin Cities station KSTP said his job has similarities to that of a locally-elected official.
